Celebrating the Year of the Dragon: Happy 2012!
Yesterday marked the beginning of the Chinese New Year!   We are so excited for the Year of the Dragon!  As always, we celebrate with CNY traditions and we wanted to share some of these with you all.

  1. Our latest fan receives his first red envelope (hong bao/ lai see) to welcome in the year of the Dragon.
  2. Carnations are a good luck flower and so is the colour red.
  3. ‘Fu’ means fortune.  Usually we post this upside down, but the ‘tie’ was to post it right side up so it’s right side up.
  4. Another good luck plant is are the ‘Fortune’ or ‘Lucky’ bamboos (Kai Yun Zhu) means “bamboo that invites good fortune.”  The plant is believed to bring prosperity, fortune and happiness to the household.
  5. Our Peach Blossom branches are the customary adornment for the New Year.  The peach ‘tao’ is a symbol for longevity, growth and prosperity.
  6. “Chut Yap Ping On” means ‘Wishing you safety wherever you go.”  Another Chinese New Year lucky phrase.

Celebrating the Year of the Dragon: Happy 2012!“2012 The Year of the Dragon: The Dragon is a creature of myth and legend. A symbol of good fortune and sign of intense power, the Oriental Dragon is regarded as a divine beast - the reverse of the malicious monster that Westerners felt necessary to find and slay. In Eastern philosophy, the Dragon is said to be a deliverer of good fortune and a master of authority. Therefore, those people born in Dragon years are to be honored and respected.”As one of the most auspicious animals in the Chinese Zodiac, this upcoming year should be filled with good luck and fortune in the areas of health, wealth, and living a long and prosperous life!  The year of the dragon comes around once every 12 years so it’s very exciting for all of us as a little extra luck never hurts.
As a tradition every year we wear all new red underwear and socks.  I know it’s strange but I have been doing it for years now!
